Not only does the new Banner Creek Science Center promise to be an outstanding educational facility – for both children and adults – it has the potential of becoming one of America’s great Science Centers. Presently the BCSC is limited to an observatory that houses a 20-inch Ritchey-Chreitien space-viewing telescope. This facility is a part of the Holton, KS K-12 educational community, and is also the world’s largest observatory in a K-12 educational facility. It is rapidly becoming a major educational stop of interest for travelers crossing America. And, it has the potential to become a truly major point of interest within mid-America. But donations are necessary in order to accomplish this goal. First, the existing telescope needs to be housed in a much larger observatory on a robotic mount. Plans for the new educational facility call for the inclusion of not just a larger observatory, but a technologically-superior Media Globe Digital Planetarium.

Fortunately the land – an 11.5 acre site – on which to build the new Banner Creek Science Center has already been designated and donated by the county. The site is high in elevation, yet close to an adjoining 1500 acres of wetlands and waterways, with lengthy nature trails entwined. This location is referred to as a “dark sky” area, as neither smog or city lights interfere with the telescope viewing.

The total budget for completion of the Banner Creek Science Center is $ 4.5 million. This is the all-inclusive amount that will be necessary to complete all initial phases of the center – inside and out. However, we believe that the BCSC will soon become a major attraction and a major contributor to the education of all mid-Americans. As such, we expect to raise additional funds for future expansion projects from this increasing number of visitors. The BCSC funding offers all Americans an opportunity to become a meaningful part of a significant educational project. Depending upon the amount donated to the project, we are prepared to name segments of the facility in honor of the contributing sources and/or the people they designate.
