BCSC WILL TEACH ABOUT NATURE AND REHAB ITS INHABITANTS!
“No child should be left behind” nor should any child “be left inside”. And they won’t be at the BCSC. Hiking trails will serve as the “hallways” of many parts of our school/educational facility, leading to our terrestrial studies and water accesses. Studies of interest will include, but not be limited to wetlands and the importance of these major natural filters for our aquatic ecosystem – above and below the soil. Terrestrial studies will focus on the surrounding Kansas grasslands, woodlands and the edge effects between them. Many of the outdoor studies will focus on projects designed to discover deficiencies and needs of the environment … then establish new projects to improve them.
One of the primary responsibilities of the BCSC Nature Center will be to educate both adults and children on the needs and value of the variety of wildlife species found within our region.
Visitors will also be alerted to the problems associated with people purchasing exotic animals – and later releasing them into our natural areas.
The BCSC grounds will also contain a small-scale fish hatchery. It is our goal to periodically release a few of our newly-hatched inhabitants into the BannerCreek
